Computer Training at Harvard Medical School

Information Technology offers free computer training sessions for all skill levels in a variety of formats. Both Hands-on Workshops and Lunchtime Seminars cover topics that both faculty and staff can attend. The following groups within Information Technology provide training:

Client Services Group (CSG)

The Client Services Group offers Lunchtime Brown Bag Seminars on current computer topics. Brown Bags are announced monthly.

Customized training can also be arranged for your department or office. A standard training class can be arranged for a group of four or more. We can also customize a curriculum for you, covering only those topics which your department or group wants to learn. Please contact the IT Manager for Administration to assist in planning for your special training needs.

Research Imaging Solutions (RIS)

Preparing images for inclusion in scientific communication has long been a time-consuming, confusing and often frustrating endeavor. Research Imaging Solutions works to identify ways to streamline image preparation so researchers can maximize their time at the bench, writing grants and developing discoveries.

Research Imaging Solutions(RIS) skills training is based on the unique ways that researchers use proprietary scientific applications, Microsoft Office and a variety graphics programs to create, acquire and edit images that are included in grant applications, journal articles and presentations to the scientific community.

• Half-day, hands-on workshops address the specific imaging and presentation needs of researchers. Due to budgetary constraints, half-day, hands-on workshops are not currently being scheduled. We will be assessing our priorities and resources in 2011 and hope to restore these half-day hands-on workshops. If you would like to schedule any seminar or workshops you should still contact Research Imaging Solutions. It is important to record the level of need for these sessions.
• Free Imaging Made Easy Lunchtime Seminars cover topics including poster making, proper PowerPoint techniques and Photoshop tricks. Visit the RIS Support web page for the Digital Imaging's Coordinator's schedule and contact information.
• Customized small group and one-on-one training is also available by contacting Research Imaging Solutions. Consider inviting us to your next lab or departmental meeting for some customized training.

Research Information Technology Group (RITG)

The Research Information Technology Group provides high-level computer systems design and support for the HMS community. RITG services include maintaining a collaborative high performance computing environment, providing access to research software applications and conducting training classes.
