Purchasing Computer Hardware and Software

The purchasing function is decentralized at the Medical School. You can choose to purchase computers and software from Harvard University Information System's Technology Services * or directly from an outside vendor.

Prior to purchasing, please review Frequently Asked Questions and the General Purchasing Guide for an overview of the purchasing process.

Information Technology strongly recommends that you always purchase an extended warranty to protect your computer hardware investment.

* Note:

Effective July 1, 2008 Technology Services will implement a simplified model to calculate shipping charges on all products delivered via FedEx Express Saver. FedEx Express Saver delivers the vast majority of personal, departmental, and affiliated institutional purchases, based simply on the total dollar amount of the order:

Order Total <= $499.99, Shipping Charge = $6
Order Total $500 - $999.99, Shipping Charge = $10
Order Total $1000 - $1,999.99, Shipping Charge = $15
Order Total $2,000 - $2,999.99, Shipping Charge = $20
Order Total >$3000, Shipping Charge = $30

Large multi-unit departmental orders which ship via Goldstar will not be affected by the above model.
